Nevada Divorce Law has been historically very lenient and for this reason has attracted people from all over the country to get a divorce. The biggest difference is in the residency requirements, currently a person only needs to live in Nevada for six weeks and they are eligible for a divorce. If both parties show up to family court, and there are no outstanding issues, a divorce in Nevada can be finalized in a week.

Although other states have become more lenient with their laws, Nevada is still the leader in divorce rates by state. Historically it was Nevada that led the way with no fault divorces. Also referred to as irreconcilable differences, most states have a version of this now. Nevada is still a leader in lenient divorce laws with no mandatory 50/50 property split between spouses. It is however, a community property state and has similar procedures as other community property states, there are simply no mandates regarding the property.

Nevada also offers the easiest and fastest path for marriage annulment. When possible, many people find the idea of marriage annulment more attractive that divorce, although the end result is the same. The state allows for a wide range of reasons for granting an annulment to a marriage and this is an option for people who have no property to split from their marriage. The six week residency requirements are the same as with a regular divorce. There is no specific time limit on getting an annulment, it is the reason for the annulment and how long the spouse or couple have known about the situation that are more important.

Regardless of whether a marriage ends in divorce or annulment, every situation that ends in a fast divorce is one that is uncontested. Once one party has an issue with another, the divorce proceedings are similar to other states.
